IJAM is a multi-denominational faith-based community organization seeking justice for immigrants. We were founded on a desire to see people of all national origins treated justly in our communities and country. That desire remains strong. Throughout history, religious communities, wisdom, traditions, social movements, and people from all walks of life have stood against injustice and worked so that people can live safely, be treated fairly, and build better lives for themselves.
We acknowledge that our country's immigration system is broken and unjust. As people representing a spectrum of faiths, we are united in our affirmation of the innate value of every human being and their right to be treated fairly and mercifully, regardless of their immigration status.
As an interfaith organization we are committed to continuing the fight for fair and just reform. We believe that together we can achieve this goal.
Our mission is one of mercy and justice for the immigrant community. As people representing a spectrum of faiths, we are united in our affirmation of the innate value of all human beings and their right to be treated fairly and mercifully, regardless of their immigration status. We seek to create systemic change in our broken immigration system by utilizing community organizing principles and developing relationships that are rooted in our faith values.
We Believe in Humane and Compassionate Immigration Reform.
In our view Reform must include:
• A sensible, compassionate and just
path to citizenship for most of the
undocumented living in the U.S.
• Protect workers through livable
wages and the right to work with
dignity.
• Honoring and respecting the dignity
of the family and promoting family
reunification.
• Moratorium on deportations until
federal reform is enacted, use of
alternatives to detention and revision
of our immigration court system.
• A revision of NAFTA and CAFTA,
the root causes of migration. |
